Hokomi Therapy

Hokomi therapy is defined as:
“a gentle yet powerful experiential psychotherapy that uses mindfulness and somatic interventions to heal attachment wounds and developmental trauma”.

Hokomi therapy looks for our core material that has shaped how we perceive ourselves. For example, if you were neglected as a child, you may believe that you are unlovable or that you must give a lot to others for their love. This isn’t true, it’s just how a young one made sense of a difficult situation. Once a therapist and client can uncover this believe and bring awareness it, then the belief can shift.

The

Hokomi Principles

Hokomi therapy is guided by core principles that create a foundation for healing and transformation. Mindfulness encourages clients to slow down and tune into their inner experiences with presence and awareness. Non-violence fosters a compassionate and respectful therapeutic space, allowing growth to occur naturally without force. The principle of organicity embraces the belief that each individual has an inherent capacity for healing and self-discovery. Unity highlights the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, as well as our relationship with the world around us. Finally, mind-body integration bridges emotional and physical experiences, helping clients uncover and release deeply held patterns for greater harmony and well-being. These principles work together to create a safe and empowering therapeutic journey.

Missing Experiments

Once the client’s belief is revealed, the Hokomi therapy seeks the “missing experience” and “what wants to happen.” The therapist then helps the client receive the missing experience by using experimental techniques that work with the body, mind, nourishment, and integrating the experience.

Experiments include:

  • verbal, such as like the therapist says an edgy statement and learn more of the client’s experience.
  • imagination, such as how an event could have turned out differently if the clients need had been met
  • physical, such as how does the clients body want to move in response to their belief. Do they want to put out their arms signaling, NO? Do they want to curl up and disappear and then practice the opposite of standing tall for all to see.

From these experiments, then the therapist and client look for the themes and blockages.

Finally, the therapist helps the client see what they are learning, name the bigger picture, and integrate their lessons into their lives in a helpful way.
