Frequently Asked Questions

How long are sessions?

Adult sessions are an hour long.
Child sessions are 45 minutes with a 15-minute parent phone call later in the week.

Do you see clients in person?

YES, this is my preference! I see clients at my office in Lyons and in-person outdoors. Logistically, this is not possible for many, so I also offer a variety of telehealth below. Getting to therapy should be stress free!

Do you see clients online?

YES! I practice therapy online, over the phone (even over the phone while my client is walking or doing house chores). In special cases, I leave messages back and forth with clients through WhatsApp (since it is encrypted). This is for circumstances when one doesn’t have an hour free for therapy, and there have been a few initial sessions. Basically, I have the training to practice therapy anywhere with any means! Therapy should fit your lifestyle. Feel free to ask me questions!

What days do you have after school hours to see children?

Mondays and Wednesdays.

What days do you see Adults? Or have time for parent check-ins?

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

If my child had a therapy session during school hours, would you provide an “excused absence” note for the school?

Yes, when a child misses school for a therapy appointment, that is considered an “excused absence” at the school. This means with a note provided by me, the absence is not counted on the child’s record or allotted absence days.

What demographic to you see?

I work with children ages 2-10 and adults 20-60 years old of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

Do you accept insurance?

Unfortunately, no, but I offer some sliding scale slots. The investment is worth it! Often clients who simply start therapy and budget in their health, see a shift in their lives with just that action.

Do you accept sliding scale?

Yes, I have a select amount of sliding scale slots. If one of these slots is open, then I’m happy to offer it to a client in financial need.

How often do you recommend for children having therapy?

Once a week is preferred. Children need to maintain the therapeutic relationship consistently. Although nothing is a guarantee, once a week, at an estimated16 sessions per 1 issue (see next question below), makes progress estimated in about 4 months. If a child came every other week, that would mean 8 months before seeing a shift, which feels less satisfying when you’d like behaviors to get better as soon as possible.

For Play Therapy, about how many sessions are expected before seeing a positive change?

In therapy, as in life, there are no promises of outcomes. Positive changes may also be different that you expected. However, from my experience, after seeing many families, it takes about 16 sessions to see progress per 1 issue. If a child is working on more than one general behavior, or has had multiple years of trauma, it will take longer. The “16 therapeutic sessions per 1 issue” estimate also depends on if parents are willing to make changes at home to incorporate therapy. If parents do not want to be involved, child clients will still be therapeutically supported. However, if parents are looking for a shift in behavior, and do not want to check-in and to try suggestions, that may take an extended period of time.

What does a nature therapy session look like?

Most of the time, I meet the client at my office, and we talk a walk to a park. Sometimes we walk and talk, other times we find a quiet spot to sit, other times we create art or experiences in nature to shed light on challenges. Please see my Nature Page to get more of an idea!

What therapies do you incorporate into sessions?

Wilderness Therapy (even if we are indoors and it’s helpful), Hokomi, Gestalt, Grief Work, Trauma sensitivities, Body Focused Healing, Present Moment Awareness, Non-Violent Communication, Somatic Practices, Heart-Centered Meditation, Synergetic Play Therapy, and EMDR.

What is Hokomi Therapy?

Hokomi Therapy is for high-functioning clients who want to expand their world view and have more options in life. In Hokomi, we access our body’s wisdom (such as our guts and our instincts.) Instead of trying to “think” our way through the problem, we slow down and listen to our own wisdom. From this place, we can tune into what the tightness in our back is trying to tell us or how we can sense we are angry before we actually act out our anger. Through Hokomi, you know yourself as you never have before, and it is good to be YOU!
